Review: Play of Light by Debra Doxer

I lived in paradise, and I loved Spencer Pierce.

At fourteen, my life was perfect. The beach was my playground, and the boy who stole my heart lived just around the corner. But perfect never lasts. In one horrifying moment, I lost it all. My family was destroyed, and the boy I believed in turned his back on me. Paradise became a nightmare.

That was five years ago. Everything changed when we moved from our home by the sea. I’ve changed, and I don’t like who I’ve become. I miss the smiling, carefree beach girl who disappeared that terrible night. I want to find her again. I want to face the people we ran from so long ago. Most of all, I have to face Spencer. So I can prove that when he broke my heart, he didn’t break me.

But when I see him again, Spencer Pierce is no longer the boy from my memories. He’s now a man who could devastate me if I let him. He watches me when he thinks I’m not looking. There’s regret written on his face when he’s near. Each time I see him, my heart aches for what might have been, and I think his does too. How can I convince myself I’m over him when I suspect he never got over me?

~ This is a standalone story. ~

Book & Author details:

Play of Light by Debra Doxer
Publication date: December 8th 2014
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance

This is a story that will make you smile, make you hope, but will also make you shed a few tears.  You feel the first crush and the first heartbreak.  There is love and lust and a close friendship. A second chance at a romance that should have been.

Spencer and Sarah share many moments.  Their special place is the beach.  A certain place the two of them meet to talk. Spencer would also watch Sarah on her roof and worry each time she was there.

Sarah has a quiet strength about.  She has to after the events in her life. She is ripped from her home when she was a teenager due to certain circumstances.  She, as well as her sister and mom, try to forget the past.  Sarah however, has something that keeps pulling her back.  She is not at peace and is searching for that back in her old hometown.

Before heading off to college, she heads back to her old town to try and find that peace, going against her mother's wishes.  While back in town, Sarah runs into Spencer, her first time crush but also her heartbreak.

As the events of the past begin to unfold, we learn so much about both Sarah and Spencer.  They were there for each other when the other needed it.  They would listen or just be there.  However, there was always something to hold them back.

I enjoyed this book.  There was mystery and chemistry.  Mostly, there was no cliffhanger.  The story came full circle.

Cover Reveal for Red by Jacqueline Noir

Designed By: MAE Cover Designs
The first time those haunting gray eyes pinned her, they’d stared at her from the face of a creature that was supposed to only be a legend. A cliché.

When Sadie VonRouge moves to Casterton, Oregon to live with her aunt, she expected a sleepy little town; the perfect backdrop for her to start piecing back together her life. She wants nothing more than a normal start to her freshman year of college.

Normal is the last thing she’s going to get.

The night she was attacked, it’d been a wolf that chased her down. A wolf that tackled her to the ground. A wolf that began sniffing her. Then she’d opened her eyes, and she’d come face-to-face with him.

But she was delusional. She knew this. There’d been no man.

At least, that’s what she tells herself over and over, even while fighting back the memory of how sinfully gorgeous the man had been, or how viciously he’d growled out that one word:

Sadie doesn’t know what is happening to her, or why she’s beginning to exhibit odd symptoms after the attack. All she knows is that her world has been drastically changed. She has no idea how much, or how serious that man’s claim was. Not until he comes back into her life, demanding the one thing that he owns above anything else.

Thrust into a new world, Sadie is going to be forced to deal with a reality she never expected.

And a dominating, scary, dangerous male that might just not give her any choice but to accept her new life . . . and the fact that he comes along with it.

“You belong to me. I own you. Forever.”

Jacqueline Noir lives in Phoenix, AZ with her loving husband, three pups, and her 'small human'.

She loves everything paranormal from the movies, television, books, and adventures to haunted places. When she isn't dreaming of werewolves, witches, and all things that go bump in the night, she is busy creating hot and romantic stories that bring to life all these creatures in their most alpha form.

Her stories feature kick-butt female leads, hot dominate alphas and a whole lot of wicked trouble. Her love for books has taken from being an avid reader, to a book blogger and now an author.

Her debut novella, Red, is the first in the paranormal erotic VonRouge series.

Review: Second Debt by Pepper Winters

Second Debt by Pepper Winter  is LIVE!

Read the dark & sexy continuation to Jethro & Nila’s Story!

Second Debt (Book Three) Indebted Series
second debt.jpg
“I tried to play a game. I tried to wield deceit as perfectly as the Hawks. But when I thought I was winning, I wasn’t. Jethro isn’t what he seems—he’s the master of duplicity. However, I refuse to let him annihilate me further.”
Nila Weaver has grown from naïve seamstress to full-blown fighter. Every humdrum object is her arsenal, and sex…sex is her greatest weapon of all.
She’s paid the First Debt. She’ll probably pay more.
But she has no intention of letting the Hawks win.
Jethro Hawk has found more than a worthy adversary in Nila—he’s found the woman who could destroy him. There’s a fine line between hatred and love, and an even finer path between fear and respect.
The fate of his house rests on his shoulders, but no matter how much ice lives inside his heart, Nila flames too bright to be extinguished.

Where do I even begin?  Oh how I love the story of Jethro Hawk and Nila Weaver.  The warmth and the ice.  The lust, love and hatred all rolled into one.  The secrets that are kept.  After each book I am drawn in even further into their story.  I was worried that with this series was just going to be the story of each debt then it would be done.  I was WRONG.  The ending of this one is now what I expected and that is one of the many reasons I LOVE this series.  I cannot wait until the next one.  You never where the story is going.
Nila thought she had finally thawed Jethro's cold shell.  She thought that just maybe he could actually care for her, that things could end differently and this debt would be no longer.  However, Nila sees something that takes all of her emotion for anyone with the name Hawk.  The only emotion she has for a Hawk is pure hate.  She has become just like Jethro, cold.
Jethro is a Hawk and does what he has to.  It what is expected of him.  Being the first born, it is something that is required of him and he will not let the family down.  After meeting Jethro in the first book, I thought, nope, don't like him.  In fact, if he were to fall and stab himself I wouldn't cry. I would have celebrated his death. Now though, I would be crushed.  We get to see Jethro thaw and see a few of his true colors and why he is cold and shut off at times.  Jethro is doing what he needs to do to survive.  Just maybe, he does actually care for Nila.
Since the first book, I have seen a growth in Nila. She is no longer the scared girl or broken.  She is plotting her revenge after finding out the true identity of Kite and from what she has now seen.  However, deep down, she does care and love for Jethro.  He has stitched a way into her heart.  Although Pepper Winters keeps hinting at Jethro's sickness, I'm like Nila.  I'm still not exactly sure what is up with him.  We get to see some insight but I know there is something more.
Will these two have a happy ending?  Man I sure hope so.  Or if anything, I hope these two somehow, someway, break this debt for the others down the line.  Just when I think there is hope for that, Pepper Winters yanks the rug away and leaves me wondering, where will these two go next?
If you need something a little dark (I'm sure as the books go on, it will get darker), erotic and a great thrill, this is a series for you.  Not only is this a good read, but it was also a quick read because you sucked into the story and just don't want to put it down!

Just thinking of Jethro sent a spasm of desire through my core.
Dammit, what’s happening to me?
A daydream of Jethro slamming to his knees before me and wrenching my legs wide stole my mind. It was so vivid, so real—a trickle of need ran down my inner thigh. I gasped as I imagined his tongue lapping at my clit, his long fingers disappearing inside me—the same finger that I’d tattooed with my name.
Would I come harder knowing he touched me with a finger branded by me? Or would I hold on as tight as I could and make him work for it?
Oh, God.
I needed to get rid of this satanic desire. I needed to be free.
My eyes opened, latching onto the detachable showerhead.
I could do it myself…
My heartbeat whizzed with need. I couldn’t fight the churning demand any longer.
Reaching upward, I unhooked the showerhead and turned the water temperature down so as not to burn myself.
Feeling awkward and ridiculous and a hundred times guilty for what I was about to do, I braced my back on the tiled wall and spread my legs a little.
My teeth clamped on my bottom lip as the water pressure tickled my clit.
Oh. My. God.
My eyes rolled back as I grew bolder and pressed the stream of heavenly water harder against my pussy.
Water cascaded down my legs while my torso shivered from sudden cold. My nipples stiffened as I wickedly angled the jet down and down until water shot inside me. Every jet and bubble aroused sensitive flesh, sending my muscles clenching in joy.
I moaned.
My legs trembled as my neck flopped forward and I gave myself over to the exquisite pleasure conjured by an innocuous showerhead.
Starbursts flashed behind my eyelids; Jethro loomed into my mind. I pictured him shrugging out of his black shirt, prowling toward me while unbuckling his belt and unzipping his trousers. I moaned again as my daydream shed his clothing and stood proud and naked before me. He grabbed his cock, pumping himself hard and firm, while his eyes feasted on what I was doing. He didn’t say a word, only watched, then crooked his finger and beckoned me closer.
My heartbeat exceeded recommended limits as I forced myself higher and higher, locking my knees against buckling as an orgasm brewed into being. I rocked the showerhead, biting my lip as the pressure spurted over my clit and then inside me. The rhythm I set was exactly like fucking and I daren’t overthink how I looked or how depraved I felt getting off this way.
My daydream forced its way past my misgivings. My forehead furrowed as I trembled, both welcoming and fighting an orgasm.
Daydream Jethro crept closer, working his cock, a dangerous glint in his eyes. The moment I was within grabbing distance, he captured my waist. “I need to be inside you, Nila.” I put words into Jethro’s mouth, but it was his voice I heard in my heart.
I moaned again, angling the showerhead harder against my clit.
“How do you want it?” my fantasy whispered in my ear as he spun me around and pressed me hard against the wall.
I swallowed hard, answering in my mind. “Fast and…”
“Filthy?” Daydream Jethro’s nose nuzzled the back of my ear, sending shockwaves down my spine. “I can fuck you filthy.”
I couldn’t speak. But I didn’t have to. My fantasy knew exactly how I needed it. Jethro bit the back of my shoulder, spreading my legs wider with his.
“Fuck me, Jethro Hawk,” I whispered.
“Oh, I will. Believe me, I will.” Without further warning, he dug his fingers into my hips and slammed inside me.
My fingers went numb as I slid the showerhead from clit to entrance. I cried out as water shot inside at the same time as Jethro thrust into me from behind, sliding deep and fast, stretching me deliciously painfully.
My heart exploded with bliss. An orgasm squeezed every atom, getting ready to hurl me into the stratosphere.
Jethro thrust again and I rode my new friend the showerhead.
“Oh, God. Yes,” I hissed, rocking harder. “Yes, yes…”
A masculine cough sounded. “You continue to surprise me, Ms. Weaver; at least this time, I rather enjoy it.”
Everything crashed into awareness. My daydream shattered, fracturing by my feet like broken glass. I squealed and dropped the showerhead. It turned into a water snake, spewing water left and right, wriggling like some terrible demon.
Jethro snickered. “You’re using up the entire Hall’s supply of hot water. Are you planning on saving some for the rest of the inhabitants of my home?”

Blog Tour & Review: Warrant by S.L. Schiefer

Title: Warrant
Author: S.L. Schiefer
Release Date: January 17, 2014
Genre: New Adult

I'm Devon Harper and there are only two certainties in my life: 1. I live to dance. 2. I'm a prostitute. Do you know when your life is suddenly turned upside down? Setting in action a sequence of events, you never saw coming. That's what happened to me. My story is not a pretty one, nor is it your typical love story. My world was rocked at 18 and again three years later. My life is a series of let downs. The only constant in my life is dance. When unlikely ally, Enzo, enters my messed up life I start to believe that just maybe there's hope for me yet. Trying to get a degree in dance and get out of prostitution might leave me with more to lose than before.

My review is going to be a work in progress due to not being finished with the book.  This is what I can say for now...this book has it all...mystery, sex, a HOT ALPHA male, and a strong woman.  From the untimely death of her mother, Devon is forced into a life of prostitution to fulfill a debt owed by her mother to the Boss.  Throughout Devon's life, she has always thought her mother loved the lifestyle more than she loved her.  Little did she know, it was really just the opposite.  Her mother remained in the business to keep her out of it.  Did this work?  Of course not.  Now Devon has to fight and find a way out of it.  During this fight, she unexpectedly meets a cop, who happens to not be on the Boss' payroll, named Enzo.  He is determined to befriend her and become her confidant, her protector, her more.  Does she let him in?  Honestly, I don't know because I haven't finished the book. My opinion is that she should.  I know she is just trying to protect him, but doesn't she deserve that same protection?  Anyway...stay tuned for part 2 of my review...the finished product.

Be sure to grab this won't be disappointed.

PART 2...OMG...I finished the book and it is suspenseful, mysterious, and so TABOO!!!  Seriously, heed the warnings on this is definitely dark!  Devon is an extremely strong heroine who doesn't break throughout all the trauma she has endured her entire life.  Enzo, a man who doesn't take "NO" for an answer, is not only strong, but devoted to Devon even though he knows what she is going through at her "Father's" house.  I found myself holding my breath through many scenes, only breathing after I knew Devon survived yet another traumatic visit from her father and step-brother, as well as her pimp the Boss, aka Brian.

This book will not only make you hold your breath but it will hold your attention.  It pulls you in from the beginning and will carry you until the end.  The author continually throws you curve balls so you never know what is about to hit you next.  I definitely loved this book...the mystery, the suspense, and the taboo nature (hopefully that doesn't make me crazy).  I hope to see more books by this author...more sex from Devon and Enzo would be nice too.  Anyhow...great book, seamless writing and transitions that offer multiple POV's.  Not to be missed out on!

5 STARS ~ Lynn

“I loved her and she left. Maybe I wasn’t enough. Maybe I’ll never be enough.” I’ve been thinking these words since before we even got together.
Everything is new. The old no longer has a place here. Physical items are easy to replace. I'm constantly battling the ones that aren't.
Every thought and memory I have is stained.
By you.
You weren't even there for half of them.
How is she still present even though she left?
I can do this. I’m going to survive losing her.

*** This is the second book of the His Series, and it DOES end with a cliffhanger. The final book of the His Series, Finding Me, will release June 1, 2015***

“Dude, you’ve got to get up.” Jameson sighs as I pull the pillow back over my head. I don’t even know what day it is anymore. I don’t care.
What adds salt to my wounds is the fact that the world keeps turning. People continue waking up and going about their day. The sun rises and sets. I hear kids laugh and play, neighbors greet one another, and birds sing, and all the while I wonder how? How does the entire world appear to be surviving this nightmare of losing her?
Hank comes to visit in June. I still haven’t heard from Ace, and yet I’m still staying at my mom’s. I can’t leave. I can’t go back to that house. I’d moved rooms shortly after she left, and now reside in the guest room on the main floor. It’s better this way. There aren’t any pictures of her in here or random memories, like the one of her sitting on my bean bag chair when I was sick last summer. I also don’t have to face the window that looks out onto hers.
Hank knows that I know mom sent for him, hoping that he’d be able to “help” me. She of all people should know that having Hank around isn’t going to help me. He’s fucking married to the love of his life; he doesn’t have a fucking clue about the shit that I’m going through.
Of all things, Hank wants to go camping. I’m sure he thinks that getting away will help. He doesn’t understand that moving rooms has helped me realize I could go to Antarctica, and things wouldn’t change; the distance isn’t going to make the pain any less.
When we get camp set up, Hank opens a cooler and passes me a beer with a giant, shit-eating grin, like we’ve just overcome a huge hurdle. Deciding that I shouldn’t rain on his little douchebag tea party quite yet, I accept the beer with merely a grimace before taking a long swig. Before long, that single swig becomes a chug, and then a guzzle as I consume more alcohol than what three people probably should.
I sit by the fire and close my eyes. My mind automatically reaches back into that locked and forbidden drawer to pull out the image of Ace, striving to recall the sound of her laugh, the feel of her touch. It brings me back to our camping trip last September, when Jameson announced that was what he wanted to do for his birthday.

Mariah Dietz lives in Eastern Washington with her husband and two sons that are the axis of her crazy and wonderful world. Mariah grew up in a tiny town outside of Portland, Oregon, where she spent the majority of her time immersed in the pages of books that she both read and created. She has a love for all things that include her sons, good coffee, books, travel, and dark chocolate. She also has a deep passion for the stories she writes, and hopes readers enjoy the journeys she takes them on, as much as she loves creating them.
